Introducing the Share the Warmth Initiative: A Community-Driven Clothing Program

At the Social Planning Council of Ottawa (SPCO), we believe in the power of community support to make a difference in the lives of newcomers and refugees. That’s why we are proud to introduce the Share the Warmth Initiative, a donation-based clothing program designed to provide free warm clothing and essential winter gear to individuals and families in need.

A Helping Hand for Newcomers

Adjusting to life in a new country comes with many challenges, and financial hardship can make it difficult for refugees and newcomers to access the essentials they need—especially during Ottawa’s harsh winters. The Share the Warmth Initiative aims to bridge this gap by ensuring that everyone has access to warm clothing, regardless of their financial situation.

How It Works

Getting the clothing you need is simple:

  1. Visit the SPCO Office – Stop by our office and register your name.
  2. Join Our List – Once registered, you will be added to our list of recipients.
  3. Wait for a Call – As new clothing donations arrive, we will contact you to let you know what’s available.
  4. Pick Up Your Items – You can then visit our office to collect your items on a first-come, first-served basis.

What’s Available?

Thanks to generous community donations, we offer a variety of clothing items, including:

  • Winter coats and jackets
  • Boots and warm footwear
  • Hats, gloves, and scarves
  • Other seasonal essentials

How You Can Help

The Share the Warmth Initiative thrives on the generosity of our community. If you have gently used or new winter clothing that you would like to donate, your contributions can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. Every donation ensures that refugees and newcomers can stay warm and comfortable throughout the winter.

By working together, we can build a more welcoming and inclusive community. Help us spread the word and make a difference today!
