Elevate : Virtual Bootcamp Guiding Youth Towards excellence
SUMMARY OF PROJECT
This youth-led virtual summer bootcamp is designed to empower 20 high-achieving high school students (Grades 9–12) from underrepresented backgrounds in the Ottawa and Gatineau region. Through six interactive, biweekly sessions, the program helps students build academic confidence, develop leadership and career readiness, and prepare for post-secondary education. Each 2.5-hour session blends expert-led presentations with hands-on activities and peer collaboration, covering topics such as career exploration, university admissions, resume building, mental wellness, and time management. The entire initiative is designed and facilitated by a team of 16-year-old high school students who have firsthand experience with the barriers their peers face.
SUMMARY OF PLAN
Students from low-income, racialized, or otherwise marginalized communities often lack access to the mentorship, resources, and strategic support systems that help others succeed academically and professionally. This is not due to a lack of potential, but rather structural inequities—including limited school support, few role models, and inadequate exposure to practical career and education pathways. Without targeted interventions, many talented students are left to navigate critical transitions alone, resulting in lost opportunities, reduced confidence, and gaps in post-secondary preparation. The bootcamp seeks to address these disparities by offering youth-centered, community-rooted, and personalized support.
